About
Our organization, The Dear Child Foundation Limited of Jamaica, provides essentials to the needy. Our name was derived from "Dear Boy," the childhood nickname of our founder's father. As a child, he assisted elders and ran errands in his community of Mount James/Mount Airy, in Saint Andrew, Jamaica, but refused the pence and shillings offered as payment. “You are such a dear boy!" a grateful elder said, and the name stuck with him from childhood to adulthood. His nieces and nephews lovingly called him, "Uncle Dear Boy."
Throughout his adult years, Dear Boy continued his acts of kindness by giving back to his community, proving that one doesn’t have to be wealthy to assist those in need or be kind to one another. He always prepared food and shared it with his neighbors, especially those with children.
In 2014, four years after Dear Boy’s death, his youngest child returned to Jamaica for his entombing. It was then she came up with an idea to honor her father’s ideals. With the support of her mother, another philanthropic soul, and her circle of friends, a project of giving back to Jamaica was formed. Initially, it was started by a social media post asking friends and families to donate their children’s outgrown, slightly used summer clothes and shoes, which were collected and packed in barrels then shipped to Jamaica to benefit the Maxfield Park Children's Home and local needy families. The word was spread and donations poured in throughout the year, increasing the shipments to several barrels being sent two to three times annually.
In June of 2016, the founder was on a charitable mission in Westmoreland Jamaica, to distribute donated sanitary napkins and toiletries to impoverished girls in Petersfield High School, when she was encouraged to register her charity with the Jamaican government.
The Dear Child Foundation Limited was incorporated as a non-profit, non-governmental organization (NGO) for charitable purposes June 9, 2016, in Kingston Jamaica.
The Dear Child Foundation Limited’s (TDCF.ltd) slogan, “Providing the essentials to the needy," underscores our intention to provide destitute families, the elderly, and those medically incapable with the essentials of food, clothing, and shelter. We will also supply funds to assist school aged children with lunch and transportation to school. In addition, we will furnish the elderly and medically incapable with medical assistive devices in order to improve their quality of life. We sincerely believe one does not have to be wealthy to give back. All it takes is a giving heart to assist those in need.
